Add a map to Notion

Direct answer

How does this MapsMaker embed workflow work?

The reliable workflow is to publish your map, choose its access mode, and add the share URL to Notion as a bookmark or link. An inline Notion embed is not currently a verified MapsMaker workflow.

How it works

1
Choose access
Set the map to Public, Unlisted, or Password according to the Notion audience.
2
Publish and verify
Publish the map and open its hosted share URL in a signed-out browser.
3
Copy the share link
Use the MapsMaker Share Link for the hosted `/m/` page; a paid website iframe is a different URL and workflow.
4
Paste into Notion
Paste the URL and choose Create bookmark or Paste as link, not Embed for the `/m/` route.
5
Test as a viewer
Open the Notion page with a viewer account and follow the bookmark through any password or access step.

Choose the access mode before sharing

The Notion page's audience should determine the MapsMaker access mode. Notion access and MapsMaker map access are separate controls.

Public: anyone with the URL can open the map; search indexing is a separate opt-in in MapsMaker
Unlisted: the map is available to people with the URL without being presented as an indexable public map
Password: viewers follow the link and enter the MapsMaker password before seeing the map
Unpublished: the share link is not a substitute for publication and should not be distributed

Example: a private trip-planning page

A trip page can use an Unlisted MapsMaker link as a Notion bookmark, then explain the itinerary, meeting points, and emergency details in Notion text.

Use groups for days or regions and tags for food, lodging, activities, and reservations
Add useful addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, and directions to the map records
Keep booking references and sensitive traveler information out of a broadly shared public map

About experimental inline embedding

MapsMaker's paid `/embed/` route is allowed to be framed, but an interactive Notion embed has not been verified in a real Notion workspace as part of this implementation.

If you experiment, use the paid `/embed/` source in Notion's `/embed` block, not the public `/m/` URL
Test sign-in, cookies, password access, directions, filters, and mobile behavior in the actual workspace
Treat failure as expected and fall back to a bookmark or plain link
Do not publish a claim of official Notion embed support until that acceptance test passes

Troubleshooting and Notion limitations

Notion does not guarantee that every external site can be embedded. A bookmark is the stable fallback because it does not require the map page to run inside a Notion iframe.

Notion says the URL cannot be embedded: choose Create bookmark or Paste as link
Password map does not preview: open the link directly and complete the password screen
Viewer sees an unpublished message: publish the map and retest the share URL in a signed-out browser
Review Notion's official help for the `/embed` command and bookmarks because workspace behavior can change

Frequently asked questions

Can I embed the public MapsMaker link inline in Notion?
No supported workflow is claimed. The public `/m/` page blocks third-party framing, so add it as a bookmark or link.
Can I try the paid MapsMaker embed URL in Notion?
You can experiment with the `/embed/` source, but Notion compatibility is not verified here. Test it in the actual workspace and use a bookmark if it fails.
Can I share a password-protected map from Notion?
Yes as a link or bookmark. The viewer opens MapsMaker and enters the map password; do not expect the password flow to render as a Notion preview.
Is an Unlisted map automatically indexed by search engines?
No. MapsMaker provides a separate indexing opt-in for eligible public maps. Unlisted sharing should not be described as search-indexed.
Can viewers still use directions and filters?
Yes after they open the full MapsMaker share page, subject to the map's configured controls. The Notion bookmark itself is only the route to that experience.
