Scope and ranking method

This map follows The Skyscraper Center's 2026 completed-building ranking through global rank 20.

  • 21 completed buildings at 20 physical locations because both Petronas towers share a site
  • Ranking ties are retained, so two buildings share rank 8 and two share rank 20
  • Architectural height includes spires but excludes antennas and other functional equipment
  • Observation and telecommunications towers such as Tokyo Skytree and the Eiffel Tower are excluded

Supertall and megatall buildings

The ranking authority separates tall buildings by architectural height.

  • Supertall: 300 meters or taller
  • Megatall: 600 meters or taller
  • Four completed buildings in this ranking are megatall: Burj Khalifa, Merdeka 118, Shanghai Tower, and Makkah Royal Clock Tower
  • Burj Khalifa remains first at 828 meters in the reviewed 2026 ranking

What the top 20 shows

Asia and the Middle East dominate the current top ranks.

  • Two US buildings appear through rank 20: One World Trade Center and Central Park Tower
  • Kuala Lumpur has four ranked buildings represented at three locations
  • Some ranked buildings offer observation decks, but public access is not assumed from height alone
  • Ranking and completion status should be rechecked before using the data for publication
